Allied health workers from the Klipfontein Mitchell's Plain substructure of the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness teamed up with the Athlone YMCA to bring joy to 26 children from the Emasithandane Children's Organisation in Nyanga.

The group hosted a packing event at the Athlone YMCA on Thursday, July 17, which included packaging freshly popped popcorn, fruit packs, snack packs, and care packages.

Emasithandane, affectionately known as Emasi, is a home for the most vulnerable children in Nyanga. The care packages comprised essential toiletries and winter warmers such as socks. The initiative also saw headwear hand-knitted and donated by a local for children aged between four months and 18 years.

Care packages and treats were also prepared for the home’s 13 carers who range in age from 20 to 82.

The items were donated from staff, local retailers, shops, and private donors.

With some opting to provide cash donations, the team could also purchase heaters and a kettle at the organisation’s request as well as board games, balls, colouring book,s and toys to donate alongside the care packages.
