More than 800 residents from Mitchell's Plain and neighbouring Samora Machel were assisted with their social grant applications at the Colorado community hall on Friday, July 11.

Residents were assisted by officials from SASSA and several banks, the police, and the department of social development, a commissioner of oaths, and Arisen Women.

The community event was hosted by Sub-council 17 proportional representation councillors, Soraya Rigby and Sandile Booysen, in collaboration with the Colorado Residents and Ratepayers Association.

Ms Rigby and SASSA also donated refreshments.
