A group of young artists from the Mark Jeneker Foundation in Lentegeur kicked off their school holiday programme with an educational visit to the South African Jewish Museum on Tuesday July 11.
The excursion, organised in collaboration with the Q Rock Foundation, marked the start of a series of activities planned for Mandela month and in celebration of 30 years of South African democracy.
During their visit to the museum, the children were introduced to various religions and cultures, sparking conversations about tolerance, identity, and history. The outing aimed to broaden their understanding of the world while encouraging artistic expression rooted in real experiences, said founder of the Mark Jeneker Foundation, Mr Jeneker.
In the weeks ahead, the foundation will continue its outreach by bringing art workshops to various communities in Mitchell’s Plain. These sessions will enable children to explore the concept of democracy through painting, using a variety of materials and techniques
Mr Jeneker said the goal is to give children the space to express themselves creatively while learning about their rights, freedoms, and responsibilities as young citizens.
