Portland youth urged to embrace music and reject gangs

Representatives of the Mitchell's Plain community police forum, Portland Neighbourhood Watch and Defenders of Truth youth band engaged Portland raised awareness about the drug abuse and gangsterism among the youth on Monday, June 16.

Mitchell's Plain Community Police Forum, Portland Neighbourhood Watch, and Defenders of Truth youth band marked Youth Day on Monday, June 16, by hosting a drug abuse and gangsterism awareness campaign at the Hazeldene taxi tank in Portland.

Representatives from the forum, watch, and the band informed children and their parents of the destruction caused by gangsterism and drug abuse.

They also encouraged youths to steer clear of gangs and drug peddling and to join a band where they will learn to play musical instruments.
