According to the Mitchell’s Plain chapter of the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce, in terms of economic activity, investment in the area is primarily in retail development with Mitchell's Plain being considered as having the strongest level of investment on the Cape Flats.

The Passenger Rail Agency of SA and government and non-government stakeholders and role-players are working to revive rail infrastructure in the metro, including the three Mitchell’s Plain rail stations, which form part of the Central line.

Reasons to invest in Mitchell’s Plain:

  • The direct rail link from the Cape Town CBD that crosses Mitchell’s Plain with three rail stations (Lentegeur, Mitchell’s Plain and Kapteinsklip) including its central business district hub
  • It is less than 10km from Cape Town International Airport and approximately 20km from Cape Town’s harbour
  • The excellent links to the metropolitan highways: the N2 national route, Baden Powell coastal highway, the R300 link between the N2 and the N1, as well as the Jakes Gerwel Drive link to the north west
  • The area borders Cape Town’s last cohesive stretch of underdeveloped coastline
  • The strong entrepreneurial and artisan skills within the Mitchell’s Plain community
