Five Ocean View residents have received their long-awaited title deeds as part of a city-wide campaign.
The initiative sees City of Cape Town officials going door-to-door to hand over title deeds to people who have been living in City housing but never formally received proof of ownership.
On a recent visit to Ocean View, the City handed out title deeds to five beneficiaries.
“This is part of a wider, ongoing metro campaign that aims to provide security of tenure and improve financial stability for families who qualify,” said mayoral committee member for human settlements, Carl Pophaim.
“This campaign is about boots on the ground; we aren’t only creating homeowners, but we are building hope in Cape Town, together,” he said.
Mr Pophaim added that the City is committed to continuing its successful title deed handover events and roadshows, saying, “We’re not done yet. Stay tuned, Cape Town—more is on the way.”
Alongside title deed deliveries, the City is hosting roadshow events where residents can speak directly to staff from various departments. These events allow the community to raise questions about housing, informal settlements, tenancy management, and other municipal services.
“Our roadshows are an opportunity for residents to interact directly with Human Settlements officials who are available to offer real-time solutions to queries,” the City said.
Ocean View ward councillor Simon Liell-Cock emphasized the importance of the campaign.
“The City has done a number already in Ocean View and will do some more soon,” he said. “Homeownership for these people is really important—it provides them with a solid foundation for their families to build wealth.”
