Beacon Valley’s Yaseen Petersen, a soccer player for Santos FC, is off to the United States of America to pursue his passion for the sport.
With the support of his family, donations, and sponsorships, he successfully raised the full R57 000 needed for his trip.
Yaseen attended soccer trials for three months with IKapa United FC. Thereafter he made the squad who will represent South Africa in the USA tournament for a week. He will be in the USA from Monday March 30 until Saturday April 26.
"I'm excited for my journey to the USA, but I couldn't have done it without Allah and my parents. A huge thank you to them and to everyone who supported me in achieving this milestone," he said ahead of his trip.
Yaseen believes hard work, dedication, and perseverance are key to becoming a successful professional footballer. "Respect, honesty, and discipline play a vital role in my development as a young player. Anything is possible if you believe."
His mother, Suraya Petersen said Yaseen is raised in a crime hotspot but showed what is possible with determination.
"You can achieve anything you put your mind to and hard work pays off. You can make a difference because you are the leaders of tomorrow. If Yaseen can make it, you can too with God on your side."
