A convicted Beacon Valley gangster, 37, has been sentenced to life in prison for raping his ex-girlfriend’s then seven-year-old daughter in 2017.
The man, who has not been named by the State to protect the identity of the child, was found guilty on two counts of rape and sexual assault. He was arrested in 2022 and sentenced in the Mitchell’s Plain Regional Court on Friday February 28.
The offenses took place at his ex-girlfriend’s house in Lentegeur. He was on parole at the time of the offences.
The survivor is now 16 years old and no longer lives in Mitchell’s Plain.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the man was sentenced to life imprisonment for each rape count and two years direct imprisonment for sexual assault.
“The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, effectively sentencing him to life imprisonment for the present cases.
“It then ordered the life imprisonment to run concurrently with a 12-year direct imprisonment sentence he received for the shooting at Club Caprice, Camps Bay, in 2019 and the 25 years direct imprisonment for the murder of steroid king Brian Wainstein, which was handed down in 2020.
“The 12 years direct imprisonment sentence and the 25 years direct imprisonment sentence were running concurrently, meaning that the accused will serve a sentence of 25 years direct imprisonment following the recent order,” the NPA said in a statement.
The court has declared the convicted rapist unfit to possess a firearm and ordered his name to be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and the National Child Protection Register for persons unsuitable to work with children, the statement read.
It also ordered the regional court prosecutor, Sergio Goff, to inform the victim of her rights to make representations should the rapist be considered for parole.
Western Cape director of public prosecutions, advocate Nicolette Bell, welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigation and prosecution team for their work in ensuring justice for the victim who was violated at a very young age.
