Kimberley SPCA faces crisis as 200 animals admitted in just 13 days

The Kimberley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has issued an urgent appeal for support after recording a staggering 200 animal admissions in just 13 days, highlighting the growing crisis of stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals in the city.

According to a statement released by the SPCA on February 13, the admissions were recorded between February 1 and February 13, 2025. The breakdown of these cases is deeply concerning:

• 23 animals were admitted for sterilization

• 27 required medical treatment

• 57 were found as strays

• 93 were surrendered by their owners

In addition, the SPCA received 18 cruelty complaints in the same period but only three adoption applications, a stark contrast that underscores the severity of the issue.

SPCA spokespersons have described the situation as heartbreaking and have called on the community for urgent assistance. The organisation is seeking help in the form of adoptions, donations, and awareness efforts to ensure the animals receive the care they need.
