Xolani Sicamba, 40, a well-known soccer coach from Nyanga, is being kept behind bars at Milnerton police station until his next court appearance in May, say police.
He made his first court appearance at Cape Town Magistrate’s Court, on Friday January 24, after being arrested in Barrydale last week, nearly three weeks after the body of Sinesipho Ncwadi, 25, was found naked in a Dunoon shack on New Year’s Day (“Slain mom’s family demand justice,” Tabletalk, January 14).
Captain Madyibi confirmed that Mr Sicamba had abandoned bail and the matter had been postponed to Tuesday May 27 for further investigation.
Mr Sicamba had been spotted by police in Barrydale on Tuesday January 21 and when taken into custody and questioned had allegedly admitted to being on the run for a murder and rape in Dunoon (“Man accused of Dunoon woman’s murder, rape to appear in court,” Tabletalk, January 23), she said.
Senisipho’s cousin, Anathi Ncwadi, said the family felt “some sort of relief” since the arrest and were happy that the accused had been put behind bars.
“We are so happy that he abandoned bail and that he was willing to speak to police,” she added.
