The Friends of Silvermine Nature Area (Fosna) received a donation of R10 000 towards its ongoing work from senior golfers, on Monday December 2. The donation will go towards supporting the two river wardens, Elvis Fanele and Daan Jacobus, with ongoing activities in the wetland. This includes weekly litter management and basic maintenance. Last month, 34 residents from Fish Hoek, Clovelly, Bergvliet, Lakeside and Plumstead joined the last work party of the year. "The focus was on clearing a thick infestation of Port Jackson on the Fish Hoek side of the wetlands that have germinated after the fire earlier this year, " said Fosna committee member Martin Scholtz. Fosna chairman Dave Balfour said: “It is expected that this alien clearing will continue in the new year with the support of the City of Cape Town alien-clearing team. We are enormously appreciative of the support that we receive from such entities as the Clovelly Golf Club's senior golfers in support of our work."
