Noluthando School for the Deaf pupils explored the Kuyasa library's computers that offer internet access to the community
Noluthando School for the Deaf pupils toured the Kuyasa library on Thursday October 17, learning about its programmes and services.
Children's librarian Thumeka Nyusela said visiting the library from a young age was known to have many positive benefits.
“This is a wonderful place for anyone. It becomes more wonderful for those who have never been to the library. Our programmes can help support especially children by developing their early literacy and language skills in fun and engaging ways,” she said.
"We also encourage budding readers to pick up books more often. There is also a technological side for them when they learn a lot.“
The children explored the library's computers that offer internet access to the community and they had a chance to play educational games on library tablets.
“They really enjoyed the library visit and promised to visit the library again. We were happy to see them enjoying themselves and happy. You could tell that it was their first time at the library,” she said.
Teacher Aphiwe Gcinilizwe said they hoped to forge a working partnership with the library that included job-shadowing opportunities.
“It was a huge thing for them to be out and in a library where they can mix with other people. Everybody was excited. Some are not exposed to going out. It was their first time seeing a library," she said.
“We are going back again soon. We will be there for job shadowing this time. We want them to go out of school with some experience. They should exit knowing real life out of school. We are broadening their horizons.”
