Lentegeur police members showed their appreciation for the elderly during a special visit to residents of Montclair Place, a Communicare facility for the elderly in Montclair on Tuesday, 23 July.
The visit formed part of Lentegeur Police’s outreach activities for Mandela Month. The programme kicked off with an energetic fitness session, followed by a brief talk by Montclair Place’s social worker on resolving conflict a pampering session.
Lentegeur Police Station Commander, Colonel Umavathie Rameshwarnath, emphasised the need to protect the elderly as they are among the most vulnerable in society. Informing them of their rights, Colonel Rameshwarnath urged them to call on the police should they experience any abuse.
Lentegeur Visibile Policing Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Harry Brickles, told the seniors that they play an invaluable role in society. He added that the elderly are particularly dear to his heart because of the values his parents taught him, which shaped his life.
Carers from the non-profit organisation, Arisen Women also treated the elderly to hand and feet massages, while nursing staff from Lentegeur Clinic offered them free health checks.
