Members of the Shumeez Scott Foundation at Liberty Promenade Mall on Monday July 15.
Members of the Shumeez Scott Foundation, based in Lentegeur, had an opportunity on Monday July 15 to show shoppers the work of their non-profit organisation, which focuses on individuals with Down syndrome and special needs.
Director Bahia Janodien said they wanted people to know more about the foundation and empower their members.
“We took our young adults to the mall to teach them skills and abilities to overcome some of their challenges,” she said.
“Skills like shopping can significantly boost their confidence and independence,” she said.
They were among other Mitchell’s Plain organisations chosen by Liberty Promenade Mall for their Mandela Day Post with Purpose initiative. Shoppers who spend R100 or more at any of the stores in the mall, should head to the food district, where they can dedicate and post their till slips to a charity posted on the box. The charity with the highest-valued tell slip will receive a donation from the mall.
