Heavy downpours cause flooding in Rocklands

Houses in Turquoise and Marble streets in Rocklands had knee-deep water coming up to entry gates.

Heavy downpours brought about by stormy weather in the city and province have resulted in many roads, dwellings and public open spaces being flooded, several accidents, obstructions in roads and severely affected roadways being closed.

In Mitchell’s Plain there have been reports of flooded roads – one of the areas heavily impacted is Rocklands where a field bordered by Silver Street, Amethyst Street, Sapphire Crescent and Aquamarine Crescent resembled a river in full flood.

Streets in the neighbourhood were also flooded with water coming up to people’s entry gates.

Life/ and or property-threatening emergencies can be reported to the City of Cape Town’s Public Emergency Centre at 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.

Pearl and Diamond streets in Rocklands were flooded as a result of heavy rains and blocked drains.
Delivery drivers in Rocklands had a hard time getting through the flooded roads, being forced to straddle pavements.

The field bordered by Silver Street, Amethyst Street, Sapphire Crescent and Aquamarine Crescent in Rocklands looked like a burgeoning river.
