Zubair Jacobs, 7, and a man, 20, were both shot multiple times, in a gang-related shooting, in Kameel and Gazelle streets, Eastridge, on the evening of Tuesday November 7.
“I just want this case to get some movement,” said Mareldia Jacobs, mother of the late Zubair Jacobs.
Zubair Jacobs, 7, and a man, 20, were both shot multiple times, in a gang-related shooting, in Kameel and Gazelle streets, Eastridge, on the evening of Tuesday November 7, said Mitchell’s Plain SAPS Brigadier Jan Alexander (“'I want justice for my child’ said mother of slain Zubair, 7,” Plainsman November 29, 2023).
Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the matter is still under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.
Zubair’s mother has been searching for answers.
She has been in contact with those involved in investigating Zubair’s case but said there has been no movement since the year has started.
“These people, gangsters, are still walking up and down here. There has been no court appearances yet. It is very frustrating. Om te dink, dan kom daai selfde mense, these gangsters are also an organisation. Everytime they shoot and nothing is done,” she said.
“I just want to know where I stand with this case, no arrests were made and no feedback was given to me. We did speak to the detective since Zubair was shot last year but I am really awaiting some feedback. The shooting has just continued, arrests must be made now,” she said.
The family spoke to counsellors and social workers in December last year and are due for more sessions this month, she said.
Zubair’s uncle, Pastor Leon Jacobs said: “We were under the impression that the evidence would lead to arrests but none were made.
“We sit with all those broken pieces and pick it up and take life on. As a family when we come together that is part of the topic, why the court case is not happening. We can’t encourage and provide answers to each other,” he said.
“We appeal to anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Sergeant Twigg.
