In October last year Amarantha Leitch, 63, from Beacon Valley, was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. After undergoing surgery for a lumpectomy, she had 13 lymph nodes (sweat glands) removed of which one was cancerous and after a mastectomy, she was declared cancer free. A year later, on Tuesday October 3, Ms Leitch officially rang the bell which signifies the end of cancer treatment. “I felt overjoyed and grateful that God had spared me to live. Surround yourself with support. Thank you to my family and everyone for praying me through it,” she said (“From cancer sufferer to cancer survivor”, Plainsman August 23).
