Sub-council 17 chairperson Elton Jansen speaks to the youth on Wednesday November 16.
Community Women Action (CWA) in partnership with Calvyn Protestant Church of SA and stakeholders hosted an information session for unemployed people at ID Morkel Camp in Strandfontein on Wednesday November 16. The event was aimed at informing the Youth of opportunities and getting them started on career paths.
Among those who came to talk to the youth were representatives of the Department of Labour, the National Youth Development Agency, Harambee, City of Cape Town Parks and Recreation and the Calvynist Protestant Church (CPC).
Trees, donated by the City’s parks and recreation department, were planted by Sub-council 17 chairperson Elton Jansen and CPC Moderator Reverend Steven John Bam.
Mr Jansen delivered a motivational talk with a focus on volunteerism and skills development, while CWA facilitator Jolene Villet Evertse talked about the organisation's programmes and assisted with registration for mobile literacy training, waitron training and job readiness training.
Other speakers included CWA’s Grant Bellairs who talked about the 4th Industrial Revolution; and Ashton Mouton from the City's parks and recreation department who talked about the impact of global warming and opportunities for the youth in the green economy.
Those present were encouraged to register on the databases of the Department of Labour and Employment, National Youth Development Agency and Harambee.
