Eastridge enjoys Heritage Day

Founder of Eastridge Community Outreach Kashiefa Blaauw Jacobs, from Eastridge hosted a community fun day. On Heritage Day Saturday September 24, Ms Jacobs made sure the day was filled with fun, braaing and activities for the community.

The children enjoyed some food and snacks from the initiative on Saturday September 24.

“(This is) a place known for its gangsterism and drugs. I'd like to change that stigma. My goal is to host social upliftment initiatives focused on families and individuals. I want to serve the community with programmes which are cutting edge, thoroughly enjoyable and innovative - programmes that come from the people within the community, for the community,” she said.

Ms Jacobs and her team host these events on every public holiday. “Heritage Day was amazing. On Saturday we gave the women a chance to compete for the R1000 cash prize. Charlene Edem and her team fed the children with over 300 boerewors and cooldrinks.”

Singer and actor, Zakariya Toerien who performed in Kat and the Kings, offered a word of motivation and encouragement and serenaded the guests.

The neighbourhood watch came out and informed the people about a six-week substance abuse programme.
