Developing women’s rugby skills

Women’s under-20 Springbok player, Leandi Smith, South African athlete Mujaahid Ismail, Women’s rugby coach Jeanette Bailey, and under-20 junior women’s Springbok player, Leigh Fortuin.

Women’s rugby coach Jeanette Bailey, 44, from Portland hosted a workshop for women in rugby at Harvester Primary School, on Saturday August 6. Among the topics they spoke about were development of rugby within Mitchell’s Plain district, rules of the game, health tips, strengthening and conditioning.

The girls showed off their rugby skills, at a drilling and training session.

On the day those who attended were shown what the game would be like in a women’s match setting.

Under-20 women’s Springbok player, Raeeqah Hendricks, South Africa athlete Mujaahid Ismail, Women’s rugby coach Jeanette Bailey, and under-20 junior women’s Springbok player, Leigh Fortuin.
The parents of the players also attended the workshop.

Former players who were part of her development were also present on the day who are now part of local and national teams such as the women’s u16 and u18 Western Province teams as well as the u20 junior women Springboks. These juniors are currently part of a rugby development squad.
