Funding workshop for NGOs

The Mitchell’s Plain NPO Network is hosting a workshop on fundraising and funding development.

It will delve into how to find the right donor, the principles of fundraising and how to turn around an NPO in crisis.

The NPO Network is a project of Serve2Serve, a non-profit company which was founded by former Mitchell’s Plain resident Francois Evertson, in 2013.

Anthea Jacobs, who works for Serve2Serve, said she is passionate about seeing NPOs thrive.

“I want to edify the community and offer more relevant solutions. Building an NPO can be a huge challenge and we want to help the best way we can. When you bring people together there's a different camaraderie,” she said.

The workshop will be launching tomorrow, Thursday May 12.

Facilitator Frank Julie, a strategist in the funding development arena will be speaking to organisations at the launch.

Ms Jacobs said she worked with Eastridge safe house, Solomons Haven, which was “in need of help, resources and support ... as they deal with vulnerable children daily”.

Maria Solomons of Solomons Haven affectionately known as Aunty Maria said: “We are grateful for the assistance and need more resources and training. We look forward to meeting other NPOs of Mitchell's Plain at this launch on Thursday May 12.”

She’s also been working with an organisation in Westridge which feeds children and has programmes on Saturdays. “We can’t do this on our own, collaborating is key and we’re here to bring about change. This initiative is by Mitchell’s Plain for Mitchell’s Plain. Supporting an NPO is everybody’s business. This will help so many people,” she said.

“We realise that we need to meet a need and an act of service. For us to win we need to unify as a community,” she said.
