Lions Club puts men in heels - and spotlight on GBV

The Lions Club International Foundation hosted a Men In Heels event at the Sea Point promenade to raise awareness about gender-based violence in the community.

The foundation has 57 clubs in the Western Cape, six of which, including the Mitchell’s Plain and Sea Point clubs, supported the GBV awareness campaign.

Jason Casper came all the way from Grassy Park to support the cause.

Diana Sochen, president of the Sea Point branch of Lions Club International said it was important for them to get involved in highlighting the scourge of GBV.

“Everybody knows of someone or is aware of someone that is a victim of gender-based violence and it was important for us to get involved and draw attention to this matter,” said Ms Sochen.

“We are raising awareness for gender-based violence and we are looking for sponsorship, so the six clubs here are assisting with this that. We don’t have many men but the women stepped up to support this cause,” said Bevil Lakay, chairperson of the Lions Club International’s District 410W.
