The Van Rhyn Feeding Scheme and Development Centre and IMITD (Ihgdienashieraatal Mustaqeem Islamic Training and Development Centre) treated their community’s seniors to a lunch in their community garden.
The Van Rhyn Feeding Scheme and Development Centre president, Rafiq Larnie said it was important to treat the seniors in their community.
“We made sure to make them feel special. The local artists made the seniors feel nostalgic when they sang songs of yesteryear. We are starting the year honouring our seniors in the new community garden,” he said.
Local artists, Zia Fielies, Andrea Anthony, Loukmaan Adams and TikTok star Cedric Laguma entertained the seniors on Friday January 21 in the Van Rhyn Crescent community garden.
Ward 82 councillor Washiela Harris said when a community comes together to celebrate seniors, it is a very special moment.
“Seniors are beloved by us. When we come together we have to make it special for all they’ve done for us,” she said.
Nadia Moses from Nadia Moses Real Estates said it’s important to give back to seniors as they’ve paved the way for many of us. They also shared some information on creating wills and offering services to help seniors.
Angelique Arnold from Van Rhyn Feeding Scheme and Development Centre said: “We are showing them we care. Sometimes they are neglected by families but we are doing something good for them, showing them that we love them. We are working very hard to pursue how we help people.”
