Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit members arrested a 21-year-old man for unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Beacon Valley on Sunday January 9.
They had been patrolling in Biljaart Street at 7pm when they spotted a man running over the field when he saw them.
While chasing the man, police saw him take a firearm from his waistband before running into a house in Judo Street.
Police found a 9mm firearm without a serial number with a magazine and 12 rounds of ammunition in a hole in the bathroom during a search.
In another incident, on Friday January 7, at 7pm, Mitchell’s Plain police received information about drugs being used at a premises in Zebra Crescent, Eastridge.
Police found one plastic bag containing nineteen .38 special live rounds and another packet containing 17 7.65 live rounds in a mattress.
A 51-year-old man was arrested and faces charges relating to the unlawful possession of ammunition.
On the same premises, in a wendy house, police found 20 .38 special live rounds under a pillow. A 17-year-old boy was arrested and faces charges relating to the unlawful possession of ammunition.
