Mitchell’s Plain High School won two awards when the winners of the Filmit Awards were announced recently.
The school took the awards for best actress and best ensemble in the school movie competition which was launched in March.
The award ceremony was held on Thursday December 9.
Eight Grade 9 pupils produced a movie called Too Bright to Shine, a drama about friendship, combating bullying and issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual) community (“Mitchell’s Plain High in finals of high school film contest”, “Plainsman, November 24).
Teacher Anastasia Snyman said they were so happy that they had the opportunity to be part of this amazing experience. “We are really proud of our pupils as they have put in the work, even lost a friend during the filming of the movie but still persevered through it all. Hard work truly pays off,” she said.
Pupil Logan Davids who took the top spot in the category for best actress, said: “I feel overwhelmed and excited at the same time. Sometimes I wonder if it's true but I'm so filled with joy honestly and very proud of this achievement.”
The school thanks all those involved as well as the parents for supporting their children and making sure they show up to be the best they can be, said Ms Snyman.
