More than 100 Mitchell’s Plain pensioners met at a Westridge restaurant and initiated the Mitchell’s Plain United Seniors’ Association (MUSA).
They gathered for lunch at Las Vegas Lounge on Thursday December 9 to launch the non-profit company.
Next year they plan to register with the Department of Social Development and the City of Cape Town to advocate for better senior citizen services.
Founder and chairman Arthur Pillay said the association was started because the elderly needed activity and gatherings following the national Covid-19 lockdown.
“Seniors were becoming bored and complacent, and even lost their lives through the Covid-19 epidemic,” he said.
Mr Pillay said membership was open to every senior citizen in Mitchell’s Plain, whether they belonged to a seniors’ club or were just sitting at home looking after their grandchildren.
