Food for Life Cape Town volunteers cook up a storm.
Food for Life Cape Town intends feeding 25 000 people at its annual food-a-thon at its kitchen in Schaapkraal on Saturday September 25.
The organisation is calling for donations to cook 125 pots of 200 meals each, at a cost of about R1 000 each pot, to serve a plate of food at R5.
The humanitarian group was founded by Srila-Prabhupada in the 1970s, with the aim of feeding people within a radius of 16km of any distribution centre.
Preparations for the cook-off, with the peeling of vegetables, will start on Heritage Day, Friday September 24 and the cooking on Saturday September 25.
Non-profit, non-government organisations, faith-based groups or those working closely with their communities are invited to collect food and distribute in the areas they serve
Naynesh Deva, chairman of Food for Life Cape Town, said the weekend’s cooking cannot happen without the support of the greater Mother City.
