Student designers partner with Levi's to produce recycled collections
The South African fashion industry is in capable hands as more student designers are coming to the spotlight.
At the recent Stadio Annual Fashion Show where student designers showcased their collections, Clothes To Good, a community organisation sponsored recycled Levi's denim.
The second-year student designers used recycled denim to create stunning collections for the “Urban Streets” show.
Some of the looks they created included bell bottoms, corsets, dresses, skirts and dungarees.
Sandeep Sokhanda, the country manager for Levi’s Africa, said it was important for them to sponsor students who advocate for sustainable fashion.
“Through partnerships with our sustainability partner, Clothes to Good, we strive to intentionally push the needle when it comes to putting sustainability in the forefront of our communities. Our partnership with the Stadio team is no different,” he said.
“Investing in the future of South Africa’s creative industry in meaningful, impactful ways is something which we are passionate about. Seeing the students’ impeccable garments which were crafted using upcycled denim further cements the brand’s sustainability message.”
Maryne Steenekamp, the head of Stadio School of Fashion, said the Stadio Fashion Show was a celebration of creativity, dedication and the future of fashion.
“Our annual showcase is always a showstopper that shines a spotlight on the creativity and talent of our fashion students,” she said.
“We’re enormously proud of our students and their work, and this is an opportunity for us to display their talents to the South African public.”
