Ministers, MPs score in the fashion stakes at the Opening of Parliament

Members of Parliament and other guests arrived on the red carpet for the Opening of Parliament Address braving the cold but ensuring to look good.

Politicians know a thing or two about fashion and on the red carpet there was plenty of colour, traditional wear and sparkling outfits.

Minister of Defence and Military Veterans of South Africa Angie Motshekga, wore a two piece brown mixed with orange. Minister for Small Business Development, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams could have been mistaken for a member of the red berets with her red outfit.

Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Sihle Zikalala’s wife Nelly was also spotted in a red ensemble that fitted her very well. Mrs Zikalala has been making sure to make every public appearances count, as even at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s inauguration she slayed.

His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the Opening of Parliament Address (OPA) for the Seventh Administration at a joint sitting of the newly established two Houses of Parliament held at the Cape Town City Hall, Western Cape Province.

The seventh administration is made up of several political parties that formed a Government of National Unity founded on the respect for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights in its entirety, a united South Africa and the rule of law.

The Opening of Parliament Address takes place once every five years, after the provincial and national elections, to outline the new administration’s plans, while also marking the official opening of the new five-year term of Parliament.
