Thebe Magugu and Anna Weylandt collaborate on high-end homeware
South African designer Thebe Magugu is venturing into homeware following his partnership with Anna Weylandt.
Originating from Windhoek, Namibia, Weylandt is a Cape Town-based interior designer who is also fond of floral arranging, ceramics, photography and writing.
In this collaboration, the two creatives merge their talents to produce high-end furniture, including a sofa.
“It’s very special when you think of the amounts of hands it has taken to create that one very beautiful piece,” said Magugu.
“The Makhoni sofa, we now make ourselves. We really invested in all the things you cannot see, You cannot compromise on quality, on comfort, on design,” added Weylandt.
Both designers added their touch to the stitching, attaching more detailing to the sofa.
“The final touches are being added and the unveiling is fast approaching. Many hands have touched, tweaked, and worked on this piece to create something bigger than ourselves,” said the designers.
The release date for the sofa has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, Magugu recently launched his Spring/Summer 25 “Reparations” collection during Paris Fashion Week.
In this collection, the designer reflects on his previously estranged father’s Malawian roots as they reconcile their relationship.
In one of the looks, Magugu honours Malawian women who navigate everyday chores with motherhood.
“Look thirteen is a pleated skirt that, when fanned out, reveals three Malawian women who walk carrying baggage on their heads. One is also carrying a baby. The sky in the skirt is matched with the sky blue sisterhood tank top,” Magugu said.
