Stuart Taylor’s "Odd Man Out" is a solo stand-up show that takes a witty dive into the awkward world of being a suburban comedian in your 40s.
Already a hit, it bagged the Ovation Award at the 2024 National Arts Festival and it's easy to see why.
Taylor shares his most cringe-worthy moments, from the odd situations he finds himself in to the things that make him, well, a bit different. It’s sharp, relatable and full of Taylor’s signature charm.
He’s been hyping up "Odd Man Out" on his social media, including Instagram, where he shared his excitement about bringing the show to the Baxter Theatre at the University of Cape Town.
Speaking to SABC News Live, Taylor shared more about the show.
"I find that the comedy I've written over 20 OD years has often been from an outside perspective. I've never really been cool enough to hang with the cool kids or weird enough to hang with the weird things. So, I'm always kind of in the middle somewhere," he said.
I realised that's where a lot of people find themselves. I think everyone finds themselves in a situation where you are kind of the odd man out and I've always exploited that for comedy purposes."
"Odd Man Out" continues the themes from his previous shows, now with a focus on how his own children sometimes make him feel “uncool”.
It promises plenty of laughs and a lot of heart, making it a must-see for anyone who has ever felt a bit out of place.
Where: Baxter Theatre at the University of Cape Town.
When: Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8.

"Specifically Cathy"
In "Specifically Cathy", multi-award-winning performer Brendan van Rhyn gives audiences a behind-the-scenes look at his outrageous alter-ego, Cathy Specific.
This music, comedy and drag show promises a fun, festive evening with South Africa's sassiest singing stewardess.
Van Rhyn reflects on the moment in 1984 when he first donned a dress, forever changing his life and creating Cathy, the "First Lady of Flying".
Since her debut in 2007, Cathy has become a media darling and red-carpet regular, known for her regal presence and sharp wit.
Her charm extends beyond the stage as she has captivated audiences both locally and internationally, even earning a nomination as South Africa’s fifth-best-dressed woman.
While Cathy has yet to receive a marriage proposal, she quips that those who go for her get "two for the price of one!"
The show promises to be raw, real and unfiltered, offering a mix of comedy, emotion and fabulousness.
As a model, fashionista, MC and entertainer, Cathy is more than just a "one-in-a-million" kind of woman; she’s "once-in-a-lifetime", making this performance a must-see.
