The matriarch of indigenous music and traditional instruments, Dr Madosini Latozi Mpahleni, will perform at the heritage concert at Artscape theatre from Thursday September 29 to Saturday October 1, at 7.30pm.
Musician Thandeka Mfinyongo, a PhD candidate in ethnomusicology, directed the concert called Ingoduko, which draws inspiration from Madosini, as she is affectionately known, and the IsiXhosa indigenous instruments, uhadi and umrhubhe. The concert seeks to take patrons deep into the essence of indigenous music that represent some of the earliest roots of jazz in Africa. They will be joined on stage by an all-star cast of Nkosinathi Matomela on keys, Grant Van Rooyen on bass guitar, Uviwe Caso on guitar, Zama Qambi on percussion, Bonolo Koane on drums; Noxolo Blandile, Siya Kawana and Amanda Nkwatheni on backing vocals; and dancers Thandeka Kakaza and Aphiwe Memani.
Tickets cost from R100 to 200. Book through Computicket or Artscape-Dial-a-Seat on 021 421 7695.
