In an empowering move that has resonated deeply with fans, South African actress, DJ and businesswoman, Pearl Thusi has boldly addressed her critics in a recent Instagram video.
The “Queen Sono” actress took the opportunity not only to confront the negative commentary that has invaded her social media spaces but also to offer advice to followers who may be in a similar situation.
The celebrated entertainer revealed that, in the past, she would have felt compelled to retaliate to the scathing remarks directed at her.
However, reflecting upon her journey, Thusi stated that personal growth has taught her an invaluable lesson: there are more constructive ways to handle negativity.
In the video, Thusi explains that she’s been receiving hate for a previous video she posted whereby she asked people not to check up on her.
“I am struggling to keep up with this hectic information age with all the content I need to keep up with, the things I need to do and then with all the people checking up on me, and I am looking at the comments, people are accusing me of doing drugs, saying I’m high, saying I’m old, saying I’m ugly ... I don’t know if it’s bots or real people but a lot of it is in Zulu, so I don’t know if there’s Zulu bots,” said Thusi.
She continued to share that in the past these comments would upset her before sharing a story about her getting upset with a friend for joking with her about her behaviour.
“Luckily God has offered me something that I’ve finally accepted, growth ... I had to remind myself that these things only have the power that I give them to affect me.
“To you, consider whether this thing deserves that power to affect you. Is it true? No. Is it nice that it’s being said? No. What does it say about the person who is saying it? But the most important question is, ‘Should you let it affect you?,” said Thusi.
Fans took to the comments to support Thusi and thank her for the sound advice.
