Rapper drops ‘truth’ in new single
Tafelsig rapper CraiigO puts the spotlight on being authentic and true in his latest single.
His single called, Mythomania, meaning an abnormal or pathological tendency to exaggerate or tell lies, was released on Wednesday April 5.
“The song speaks on how I often ask God to guide me when it comes to my music. How I ask God to reveal things to me that's happening in the poorest of poor communities. It also speaks about the fact that I have absolutely no fear in speaking the truth, knowing that people don't like to hear the truth at times,” he said.
Speaking the truth will definitely change the lives of the most broken and dangerous people in our gang infested and poverty stricken communities, he said.
The song also highlights the lengths some of our artists are willing to go to be accepted by society, “not knowing that we will be judged by God”, said CraiigO.
The music video was shot in Tafelsig and in an informal settlement in Schaapkraal called Egoli.
He chose these locations as they are places that are hit the hardest by gangsterism, poverty and drugs.
“I grew up in these places and I lived with the poorest of people imaginable. I wanted to show where I come from and how proud I am that I came from nothing. I also want to show not only the youth but also the adults in these communities that there's more to life than what they think. All they should do is put God first and serve their purpose on earth,” he said.
“This song is really special to me because as a sinner I still acknowledge my living God and the talent he has blessed me with. It’s my heart's desire to see artists making music that speaks the truth and changes the lives of people according to God,” said CraiigO.
“My verses were co-written by Jesus and Moses, I would like to thank them. I would like to thank my community for inspiring my music and also Gino Abraham for producing the track, Ricardo Jullie, Brando, the Parliament team and also the guys who shot the video, Noel Bekeur and Rikki Remo,” he said.
CraiigO’s sister, Annelize Simmers was a former drug addict who was addicted to drugs for almost 30 years and lived in the informal settlement.
“Today, she's clean and she helped me direct and gather the people and characters for the entire video,” he said.
CraiigO’s colleague, Rikki Remo said: “Never give up and never stop standing for what you believe in. The world is yet to meet CraiigO Die Master as there is more to be unleashed from this brilliant mind. Kap aan kaptein,” he said.
“I'm about to change how the world sees Hip-Hop music and also how churches see the music that they call devil music. I'm about to serve my purpose by speaking the truth and also applying the word. That's what I call ‘ghetto gospel’.”
