Donations to school and orphanage bring hope
Durban — Mashiyamahle High School in Ndwedwe and Lungisisa Indlela Village (LIV), a home for orphaned and vulnerable children in Verulam, received much-needed donations on Monday.
Public Works and Infrastructure Deputy Minister Sihle Zikalala and Msinsi Holdings senior officials donated school uniforms, rugby jerseys, cutlery and crockery, and more than 400 chairs and 50 tables.
LIV has about 150 children. The Mashiyamahle High School in Ndwedwe is the most populated with 1 608 pupils, with the matric class alone having 206 pupils.
Zikalala said they donated uniforms and sports equipment and the contributions will also help boost the school’s nutrition programme as it is situated in the poorest area.
He believes that the contribution will help schools, especially those with needy pupils.
“They were given rugby sports kits to encourage them to love this sport as well.
“The contribution will help them, especially with the needy pupils who deserve to go to school in a dignified manner.”
School principal Bhekekhaya Lawrence Ngwane asked for more classrooms to be built to eliminate overcrowding.
He also asked for assistance in documenting more than 200 pupils who do not have birth certificates for various reasons.
Officials also handed over equipment to the Sonkombo Community Hall to help them use the premises effectively. Zikalala said that this programme is a continuation of the development programmes in these communities that they support.
Zikalala also said that other areas will benefit from the support within and out of the province.
