Cape Town - SAPS officers have opened a murder case after a woman, 35, was found dead in Westridge, Mitchells Plain.
Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said the body was discovered early on Saturday morning. She had serious head injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Further investigations will follow.
Van Wyk said Khayelitsha police were investigating a robbery that took place at Thembokwazi Mall. He said four suspects, aged between 20 and 25, were arrested and would appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Operation Restore members arrested a 37-year-old man in Browns Farm in Nyanga while doing stop-and-searches in the area.
The man was arrested on charges of illegal firearm possession and is expected to appear in the Philippi Magistrate’s Court today.
Operation Restore members acted quickly in response to a call about a dagga lab in Mfuleni. They found a large quantity of dagga, including 28 green bags of dagga and one transparent bag with a street value of R3 000.
The suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court today.
In Delft, a 34-year-old was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Police units throughout the Southern Cape made more than 250 arrests, including at drug outlets and second-hand dealers, for murder, rape, robbery, drug-related offences and petty crimes.
Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Thembisile Patekile applauded the communities for their involvement in the fight against crime, and commended Operation Restore members for ensuring unlicensed firearms were removed from the streets.
