An Eastridge Islamic high school took top honours in the 11th Annual Fusion Inyameko High School nasheed competition at City Hall in Cape Town on Saturday July 30.
Darul Arqam Islamic High School’s boys nasheed group won the competition for the fourth time, including being awarded for the best drummer and best soloist. They were followed by Darul Islamic High School, in Surrey Estate and Al Azhar High School, in Athlone.
Their girls group came third, had the best drummer and shared the title of best soloist with Islamia College.
Mitchell’s Plain High School, in Portland, became the first non-Islamic high school to participate in this year’s lyrical Arabic art form of praise.
